Every Autumn since 2007, Southwark Bridge in London has been closed to traffic and transformed for a spectacular communal harvest supper that reconnects an urban public with the growing cycle. Visitors are invited to share a meal, to eat, drink, dance and make merry in a day loaded with activities. Feast on the Bridge, is organised by a team of artists led by Clare Patey, and is part of the London Mayor's Thames Festival.
In 2011, the theme was sustainable fish and, in the evening, diners were invited to the Forgotten Fish restaurant for a special meal prepared by chef Thomas Hunt, in collaboration with Taste of Freedom, using discarded fish and waste vegetables. As the sun set there was a mass toast to the River Thames and all who swim in her.
The Southwark Bridge banqueting space was designed by Cathy Wren.

Feast on the Bridge 2008
There was feasting, dancing and entertainment from 12pm to 10pm; High Tide and Low Tide food ceremonies, with soup cooked on the bridge from locally grown pumpkins; story-telling, street theatre, harvest activities, music, dancing and a selection of food from farmers and producers.

Musicians include the Bohemia Ukulele Band, Bobby Valentino and Los Pistoleros, Circo Abusivo, The Zen Hussies, Carlos and the Bandidos and Cut A Shine. Read our feature on Feast on the Bridge 2008 here.
