Calling Tree is an ongoing collaboration between choreographer and diretor Rosemary Lee and movement artist Simon Whitehead. Produced by Migrations and Artsadmin, Calling Tree previewed at Cae Llan, Betws-y-coed, North Wales, Gogledd Cymru, 23 -24 August 2014.
Nesting in an iconic oak tree in the heart of Betws-y-coed, Calling Tree is a performance cycle of songs, movement and messages to passers-by. Throughout the day performers will inhabit the tree canopy. As they continually appear and disappear, fluctuating between restful perching to passionate vocal and physical activity, their bird-like calls and songs resonate out from the heart of the village.
This will be the start of a longer journey for Calling Tree. Lee and Whitehead are developing this quietly provoking performance for urban contexts, adding new songs, texts and contributions from composers & musicians, local artists and thinkers in each new location. www.artsadmin.co.uk/projects/calling-tree
