Road Rage with text by Sir Richard Stilgoe and score by Orlando Gough, is the first community opera produced by Garsington Opera, based at John Paul Getty’s Wormsley Estate.
With the suggestions that Rome drove its viae stratae through helpless peasant smallholdings, the script then makes a modern parallel as a crazed government minister attempts to push a motorway through a sleepy Chiltern backwater. Road Rage then evolves into an opera of energetic demonstrations.
The opera was performed by children and young persons, along with professional singers, members of Simon Over’s Southbank Sinfonia. Road Rage had two performances in July, 2013. photo: John Snelling
