My Last Car creatively examines the fundamental influences the motor car has had on people’s lives and the implications for sustainability. At the heart of the experience sits a car that has had its inner mechanical secret self removed. All the gubbins that make up the engine and its associated stuff has been given a new life as gallery objects, both real and digital. The beauty of the car’s secret interior is revealed and woven into the many stories that the motor car has given us, incorporating live and digital performance, a gallery exhibition and a programme of in-depth community activity.
My Last Car has many layers of meaning and resonates with audiences of all ages and backgrounds, making it the perfect vehicle for the creative exploration of one of society’s greatest challenges. The production has been funded by Arts Council England, TippingPoint and the imove programme and had successful outings to Warwick, Bentham and Ryedale as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012. We are planning a re-tour of My Last Car in 2014. www.mylastcar.co.uk
