2012
Caridad Svich's play, The Way of Water was performed as a playreading by Pot of Thieves Theatre Company at Aberystwyth University, 22 April 2012.
The reading in Aberystwyth forms part of a multiple reading scheme that spans venues across the US and internationally as a way to mark the two-year anniversary of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill and to raise awareness to the continued health and environmental issues plaguing the Gulf of Mexico region.
The play traveled quickly, more like an indie-music event than a theatre tour. This new kind of theatrical experience is low-budget, international, tied in with social media and carbon-light.
The play deals with the toxic effects of the spill on four people, on their health, livelihoods and sense of community. The play’s impetus is towards taking action against corporate malfeasance, a revision of the plotline of An Enemy of the People.
