An immersive landscape of otherworldly sounds and extraordinary wind-harnessing instruments, Audible Forces is an intricate landscape of musical installations powered by the wind. Intriguing kinetic, sonic creations produce other-worldly sounds as nature’s unseen force breathes life into them.

Audible Forces is inspired by sound artist Max Eastley’s explorations into Aeolian (wind driven) instruments, from their mythology and curious history, to contemporary explorations of them.

Six sound artists, Mark Anderson, Jony Easterby, Kathy Hinde, Dan Fox, Nathaniel Mann and Mike Blow, have each created their own instruments that harness the wind. Their instruments form a unified experience made up of an ever changing sound world that captures the imagination.

'Max Eastley has the knowledge and artistry to alert us to the fearsome, glorious, delicate constellation of sounds that make listening incredible', Siobhan Davies, in the Guardian.
Audible Forces is produced by Oxford Contemporary Music and the Oxford Brookes University Sonic Art Research Unit. It is co-commissioned by Brighton Festival and Without Walls. The participation of Max Eastley has been supported by the AHRC.

Oxford Contemporary Music present a performance of Vauxhall Pleasure, a chamber ensemble piece and installation of surround sound by composer Paul Whitty and visual artist Anna Best.

Vauxhall Pleasure was also performed at Vauxhall Cross traffic interchange and at Late at Tate, Tate Britain.

The piece draws upon past history, present conditions and future plans of that London location whilst exploring the relationship between political protest and entertainment, traffic and pedestrians, pollution, breathing and song.

The performance is accompanied by a symposium of artists, environmentalists, city planners and the general public on the issues of sustainable transport, planning and pollution that Vauxhall Pleasure raises.
