Futurology was a co-production with Suspect Culture, the National Theatre of Scotland and the Brighton Festival. Futurology is a black comedy which tells the story of a conference of economists, politicians, protestors and mystics who come together to ask whether everything will be all right, and to make the big decisions, given that the future seems to be accelerating towards a changing climate, oil running out and renegade technologies.
'Do you ever feel like a rabbit caught in the headlights?...In the future we’ll have cars that run on water, smart fridges that know what food you like, Google implanted in your head so you never need to actually know anything ever again. Meanwhile we’re left wondering how to act now. Is there something we should be doing? Is it OK to be doing nothing?'
Everyone seems to know what they are doing at this conference, except the delegate from the Sandwich Islands, whose home is sinking. For her, the conference is a struggle to negotiate politics, conference sex and learning how to play the game in order to save her homeland. Futurology explores the big questions using dark humour, song, dance and ventriloquism.
